“… Managing Online Forums is a worthwhile book to buy and absorb. There are TONS of great resources in there, and lots of real world examples for you to follow. This alone makes the book a great resource to have on the shelf.”

- Chris Brogan

“Within 20 minutes, I was on page 70. Perhaps it was my interest in the topic, perhaps O’Keefe’s writing style. Whatever the reason, the book (at just over 300 pages) was a quick and easy read, chock full of great information, advice and examples and left me feeling like I should give online forum management a try.

Perhaps the best thing I can say about the writing style is that it isn’t written from the perspective of a haughty expert peppering you with polysyllabic words and ethereal Internet philosophy. O’Keefe has something to say and he says it, plain and simple.”

- Jason Falls, Social Media Explorer

“I think the timing for this book is great.  With so much emphasis on social media, a lot of people are jumping into the fray and discovering that managing people in a community setting isn’t easy.  I think Patrick’s done a great job of getting to the real, practical issues and questions that arise and how to deal with them responsibly.”

- Lee LeFever, Common Craft

“… I would highly recommend Managing Online Forums because I found it to contain a wealth of educational and practical insight. It enabled me to develop my project plan for developing and executing our online communities.”

- Rich Villalobos, Marketing Manager, Cisco Systems

“I thought I’d been doing community work long enough that I wouldn’t find much new in this book. I was flat wrong. While some of the more technical discussion wasn’t relevant to my needs, the rest of the book is a treasure trove of ideas and tips for effectively managing communities.”

- Jake McKee, Community Guy

“Starting an online forum can be a daunting task. But, if you read from the experts, you’ll figure out how to do it right the first time and you won’t waste your time. So, I highly recommend Managing Online Forums by Patrick O’Keefe.”

- Jim Kukral

“This is the kind of book we’ve needed - I’ve been telling business owners and corporate marketers for years that they’ve been focusing on the wrong things (i.e., what software to install) when what they should be thinking about is all that “other” stuff.”

- Thomas Myer, Triple Dog Dare Media

“Author Patrick O’Keefe, who has managed online community forums for 8 years, offers a blueprint for administrators who want to make the right choices so that users return again and again to their forums. O’Keefe’s 300-page paperback is a practical guide for anyone who gets tasked with running a forum.”

- MarketingSherpa

Managing Online Forums has a very readable, conversational style, which I found congenial. It would perhaps have been easier for the author to write more of a “shopping list” of things to do and not do, but I for one would probably have found such an approach not only boring to read but less than convincing. With Managing Online Forums I felt I was in the presence of a master, who had not only “been there, done that” but had reflected long and deeply on what works and what doesn’t.”

- Des Walsh

“… [Patrick] definitely walks the talk. He doesn’t just write about forums. He has been successfully creating, maintaining, and building them for many years. So, he definitely comes in with a lot of his expertise with this book.”

- Shai Coggins, Co-Founder and Vice President of Community, b5media

Managing Online Forums should be considered essential reading for both experienced community managers and those that are new to forum management.”

- Martin Reed, Community Spark

“I had the opportunity to read through this book over the last week, and I’m just floored by how much good information it’s got in it. This book is years of Patrick’s experiences running successful forums … and all the tips, tricks and wisdom he’s picked up during those years. I ran a moderately successful forum years ago, and would have saved myself months of headache and heartache had I had the information in this book at my fingertips back then.”
